Hello, lovely readers!
Today, I’m excited to dive into a topic close to my heart: the delicate balance of nurturing creativity while managing a busy life as a mother of three vibrant girls, a supportive spouse to a creative genius, and a seasoned professional in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry.
Embracing the Chaos
Life in our household is a whirlwind of activity and color. With three energetic daughters, every day is a new adventure. From school runs and extracurricular activities to bedtime stories and impromptu dance parties, our home is a blend of organized chaos and joyful noise. It’s a beautiful, sometimes overwhelming, testament to the love and laughter that fills our lives.
A Creative Partner in Crime
My husband is an incredibly talented creative who brings a unique vision to his work. His passion for his craft inspires me daily and serves as a reminder of the importance of following one's creative instincts. His ability to transform ideas into art is something I deeply admire, and his support has been crucial in my quest to keep my own creative flame burning.
Navigating a Marketing Career
For the past 16 years, I’ve immersed myself in the world of marketing within the AEC industry. It’s a field that’s both challenging and rewarding, filled with strategic planning, client relations, and a constant evolution of industry trends. My career has allowed me to develop a skill set that’s versatile and dynamic, but it also demands a significant amount of time and mental energy.
A Passion for Fashion
In addition to my professional life, I’ve pursued my love for fashion through studies and personal exploration. Fashion has always been a source of inspiration for me—an art form that combines creativity with practicality. My journey through fashion has not only enriched my understanding of design but also fueled my desire to create.
Finding Time for Illustration and Design
Amidst the hustle and bustle, carving out time for my own creative pursuits—particularly illustration and design—can be a challenge. It’s easy to get lost in the day-to-day demands of family and work, leaving little room for personal projects. Yet, I’ve learned that nurturing my creative side is not just a luxury but a necessity for my well-being.
Here’s how I plan to balance it all:
1. Prioritize Self-Care: I’ve realized that taking care of myself is essential. Whether it’s a quiet moment with a sketchbook or a brief escape into a design project, I will make it a point to allocate time for activities that recharge me.
2. Set Boundaries: Establishing clear boundaries between work, family, and personal creative time will be crucial. I will try to stick to a schedule that allows me to focus on my career during work hours and dedicate specific blocks of time to personal projects.
3. Involve the Family: Sometimes, creativity can be a family affair. I will involve my daughters and husband in my projects, turning art and sketching sessions into bonding activities. I’m certain their enthusiasm and fresh perspectives will lead to new ideas and inspiration.
4. Embrace Flexibility: Life with three kids means that plans can change in an instant. I’ve learned and will continue to be flexible and adapt my creative time to fit within the ebb and flow of daily life.
5. Celebrate Small Wins: It’s easy to feel discouraged when progress seems slow, but celebrating small achievements will keep me motivated. Whether it’s finishing a design or simply sketching for a few minutes, acknowledging these moments will help keep the creative momentum going.
The Joy of Creative Balance
Balancing motherhood, a demanding career, and personal passions isn’t always easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding. Each role I play contributes to a richer, more fulfilling life. My family, career, and creative endeavors each bring their own kind of joy and satisfaction, and finding harmony among them is a journey I cherish.
So to all the multitasking moms out there juggling multiple roles and passions—know that you’re not alone. Keep nurturing your creativity, and remember that every step, no matter how small, is a victory in itself.
Until next time, stay inspired and keep creating!

Prestigious Women Awards
Did you know that last year I was honored to receive an award from South Florida Business & Wealth at their 3rd Annual Prestigious Women Awards? I was beyond thrilled to receive the Rising Star (under 40) award! In attendance was my support, best friend, and husband, Frankie Coletto!
Cultivating Happiness
At times, I find myself contemplating whether I'm on the right path. Am I dedicating sufficient time and effort to the most important aspects of my life—my husband, kids, friends, and family? Or am I simply going through the motions each day without making a meaningful impact? Questions arise about my adequacy—am I good enough? Am I instilling valuable life lessons in my children? Am I adequately preparing them for the future? Am I a competent mother and wife? Am I fulfilling my roles at work effectively? Am I pursuing my passion, and how can I enhance my financial situation while doing what I love on a daily basis? These thoughts frequently occupy my mind, leading me to wonder if I am causing unnecessary anxiety for myself. Is there a way to hit the stop button and cultivate more happiness and contentment in our current pursuits? I don’t think I have those answer just yet, but for now I’ll use this blog to help me.
A hint of “Red”
A couple months ago, my husband and I decided to take a trip to DC to unwind and strengthen our connection as a couple. If you recall my previous post about spending quality time alone, that was initially intended to be our DC weekend, but we had to postpone it until January. This time around, we chose to stay in the same hotel where we celebrated our engagement five years ago.
During our visit, we explored various museums in DC that we hadn't seen before. To add a touch of vibrancy to my outfits, I incorporated hints of red through accessories like socks, nail polish, and even lip color. What are your thoughts on this subtle style choice?
The Scars Behind Us
As I rummaged through that surgery album which had old photographs and memorabilia, I stumbled upon a collection of videos that transported me back to one of the worst seasons of my life - the time when I underwent brain surgery. It was a season marked by fear, uncertainty, and pain, but now, as I revisited those memories, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia and overwhelming gratitude for the journey I had traveled since then.
The videos began to play, and there I was, sitting in a sterile hospital room, my face marked with a mixture of apprehension and determination. The camera shook slightly as it captured the anxiety in my eyes before the surgery, and I could hear the tremor in my voice as I spoke about my fears and hopes same with the videos of those weeks after. I recalled the vulnerability I felt in those moments, as if I were teetering on the edge of an abyss, uncertain of what lay beyond.
As I watched those videos, I couldn't help but marvel at how far I had come since that time. The brain surgery had been a necessary but harrowing experience, one that required immense strength and resilience. It was a battle against a formidable adversary within my own body, and as I saw myself on the screen, I couldn't help but admire the courage I had summoned to face it head-on.
The memories of the surgery itself were still vivid in my mind - the sterile smell of the operating room, the hushed conversations of the medical team, and the moment when I had been wheeled into the cold, brightly lit space with over 15 medical personnel in a single room. It was a surreal experience, and yet, here I was, alive and well, watching the videos of my past self with a sense of awe.
As I continued to watch, I saw the gradual improvement in my condition in the following weeks and months. The videos captured my small victories - but they could never convey the mental struggle and the moments of frustration when progress seemed agonizingly slow. But they also captured the unwavering support of my family and friends, who stood by me through it all, providing the emotional scaffolding I needed to rebuild my life with the little miracle growing inside me.
What struck me the most was the transformation in my mental state. In those videos, I saw the early signs of hope and resilience emerging from the depths of despair. I spoke of my determination to not let the surgery define me, to use it as a catalyst for personal growth and change. Watching those videos, I realized that I had not only survived the ordeal but had also emerged stronger, both mentally and emotionally.
As I turned off the screen, I couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. I was grateful for the skilled medical professionals who had saved my life and my baby, for the unwavering support of my loved ones, and for the strength and resilience I had discovered within myself. I had come through one of the worst seasons of my life, and while the scar remains, they were a testament to my ability to endure and overcome.
Nostalgia washed over me as I carefully stopped the video and switched the album of a challenging chapter in my life. I knew that I would never forget the fear and pain of that time, but I also knew that those memories would serve as a constant reminder of my capacity for growth, healing, and the profound gratitude I felt for the better place I now found myself in, both in terms of my health and my mental well-being.
Enough with the mushy and novela stories…. Let me tell you all about what I will be talking about this upcoming year of journals as I get back into it…. Faith, motherhood in all its true glory, fashion, design, and life!
If you haven’t already done so, be sure to sign up to the journal to receive it directly to your inbox once they are published! Stay along for the ride as I continue to rediscover myself and this life God has granted me.

Last weekend, with the kids in the capable hands of their grandparents, my spouse and I relished the rare opportunity to reclaim our identity as a couple. Free from the usual parental juggling act, we began with a leisurely breakfast, savoring the quiet moments and uninterrupted conversation that had become a luxury. We explored art galleries, indulged in a spontaneous tattoo session, and dined at various places, reveling in the freedom to be ourselves again. The weekend served as a poignant reminder of the importance of carving out time for each other amid the beautiful chaos of family life, rekindling the spark that first brought us together.
As the weekend came to a close, we returned home with rejuvenated spirits, cherishing the memories of a weekend filled with laughter, art, and the simple joy of being a couple. The tattoos we now share stand as a permanent reminder of that special time, a symbol of the bond that persists through the challenges and joys of parenthood, and a promise to continue nurturing our relationship amidst the demands of family life.
Make It YOU
Finding a personal style that sets you apart.
Hello Friends,
Earlier this week I was talking to a girlfriend and she asked me how I can rock so many hair and clothing styles with such confidence. In summary she was trying to tell me that no matter what I wear, it looks good on me and yet that was not the case for her. That got me thinking, why are things working for me and not others? That’s when it hit me, its not about it always working for but more about me making it my own and owning not just the item or thing, but owning who I am as a person!
I recently found this article from MasterClass. It give 5 tips on how to find your own personal style. After reading it, I found that I do these if not daily then weekly. So maybe it is something you can do as well!
Let's break these down:
1. Look to your own closet. Think about the clothes you have that make you happy. What are your favorite items in your closet? Pull these pieces out and think about why they make you feel good. Notice what they have in common. For me it is the monotone classic pieces. These include a black blazer, a crispy white shirt, my favorite Levis 501 jeans, my denim jacket, my trench, a white pair of sneakers, my leopard pumps, and some leather joggers. All of these can be mixed well with other items and colors in my wardrobe.
2. Find fashion inspiration. When looking for fashion inspiration, start with family and friends whose style you admire. Spend time on social media, and observe how friends and celebrities dress, from casual outfits like crop tops and leggings to work-ready blazers and turtlenecks. Blogs are full of fashion tips and inspiration, so find a few fashion bloggers whose style interests you and search through their archives for your favorite outfits. If there is a celebrity or an influencer whose style you like, try to find out who that celeb's stylist is, and look to them for inspiration. Fashion magazines are another great source. Learn about different style types, and identify the ones with which you most align. I can honestly tell you that for me, I love a mix between some French influencers I follow and the Queen of American fashion, Jenna Lyons. Her style is fun, quirky and she loves a good mash-up.
3. Create a fashion mood board. A mood board is a great way to work toward developing your personal style. Once you’ve gathered your fashion inspiration, compile the images into a mood board. Even if your inspiration feels all over the place, you might discover that a lot of your models are wearing denim jeans, a lot of them are wearing maxi dresses, a lot of them are wearing tops with ruffles—that's still an overarching vibe or mood that you're going for. Choose two or three images that exemplify the aesthetic of the group, and keep those images on your phone so that you can look at them when you’re out shopping. I do these a lot prior to purchasing an item. My favorite go to is Pinterest. I usually begin looking at ways I can style a piece prior to purchasing it. If I can wear it 5+ ways, then I will most likely buy it.
4. Create a capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe is a collection of basics that you can mix and match to create effortless looks. These are classic pieces in neutral colors that go with everything: a little black dress, a denim jacket, simple T-shirts, a leather tote. You might already have some of these in your closet: Keep the ones that make you feel great, and replace everything else with basics that really work for you. These items may be simple, but they’ll help you show off your unique style by providing a foundation for more exciting pieces. I talked about this during item 1. I love creating capsule wardrobe. Be sure to re-use your clothes and also share with your friends. Sometimes swapping pieces with your friends can bring in a new and fresh perspective to your closet.
5. Experiment with unique style choices. Once you've built your capsule collection, it's time to add unique pieces to your wardrobe that show off your style personality. This might involve some experimentation, so remember that it's okay if you change your mind. Personal style is all about playing with fashion to discover which clothes make you feel your best. Start with bold accessories and pops of color and then work on mixing and matching prints and textures. Jenna Lyons is the queen of this. Why don’t you look for some inspiration in Pinterest and try to put your own twist on what you’ve seen?
XX,
Clothes aren’t the only way to create a unique style that sets you apart…
Glasses
Speaking of staple items in your closet, let us not forget that accessories are a great way to come into your own style. I seem to always go for bold and cool optical frames. That is one way I’ve been able to make my own style and I mean, they are practical. Haha
The frames shown here are from Moscot; one of my go to shops for optical frames. I currently own 5 pairs from Moscot and I think they are worth every penny!
Hair
Hair is a love affair for me. Since the first trip to the hair stylist in middle school, I have been changing up my hairstyles. I love trying new styles and colors and finding what works for me. My hair grows very fast, so I am never afraid to go short. I have made some mistakes along the way but hair is definitely a way you can set yourself apart and find your own style.

Current Obsession: Pajamas Dressing
There is something about a stylish two-piece pajama that I cannot get over. I’ve began wearing a few pajama tops with jeans and some pajama pants with heels. It’s 2021, we can try anything.
Current Hobby: Fashion Illustration
This past Christmas, I was gifted a new iPad Pro. I was so excited and as soon as I got it set up, I jumped right into illustrating. I haven’t really illustrated in a couple years so I am a bit rusty. Check out some of my latest illustrations below. These were created using Procreate and can also be found on my instagram. Yes, I Will Be Wearing White After Labor Day
Hello Friends,
I know I have been MIA for a few weeks but some personal stuff needed my full attention. However, I am back and ready to push all the content I have written even while away. Having celebrated Labor Day a couple weekends ago, an old fashion rule came to mind “Do not wear white after Labor Day”. Ugh, whoever made this rule did not live in Miami or anywhere tropical. So my new motto is “Yes, I Will Be Wearing White After Labor Day” and no one can stop me!
Vogue had an article on this a couple days ago and it resonated so much! "Trade in airy summertime fabrics like linen and summery silhouettes like spaghetti straps for long sleeve tops and lightweight sweaters." I know for sure I will not stop using a ton of the white items in my closet like my jeans, and button downs. I will invest in a couple of nice white sweaters and maybe even a white leather jacket to create a crisp all-white winter look. I will also add some cute white loafers or white booties to the mix. Last year, I had purchases the cutest off-white booties. I can’t wait to start rocking these again.
Moral of the story; do as you please! Create your own do’s and don’ts! You are the writer of your story!

Savannah - A change in scenery
Follow me as I discuss the trip we decided to take to escape the cabin fever.
Photography by Frankie Coletto | August 2020
Hello Friends,
Happy Wednesday! My husbands job (ANSA Motorsports) has a race in Virginia and we needed a change of scenery. So, we packed the car and decided to head to Savannah for a few days and later Virginia. Thankfully with working remotely a change in location was not hard to do. After a 7 hour drive we arrived to beautiful trees, manicured parks, and what Savannah is known for; Antebellum Architecture. I must say that the change was definitely necessary. As a creative, I was going bananas at home and going getting a babysitter so I can go into the office is not always easy. We have a great support system but this pandemic has not always allowed for those who would be watching the baby to be there as much as I’d like. Anyways, this trip was definitely needed. Since I am still working full time, those 8-5 times were spent on my computer but in a cafe, or in our Air B&B which is at the heart of the historic district. This place is beautiful. The condo is surrounded with floor to ceiling plantation shutters with views to Wright Square. Yes, the hunted Wright Square! I’ll tell you a couple stories on that on my instagram.
Since our arrival, we have been working but setting some time aside to drive around and visit some historic places. A couple days ago we decided to head to Wormsloe Historic Site. The 1.5 mile drive filled with beautiful and manicured oak trees was something out of a dream! We then decided to take a quick (or so I thought) walk through the property. We stumbled upon some beautiful trees, hundreds of little crabs, and a deck with a spectacular view of Jones Marsh. The day was hot but it was so worth it!
What has been one of your favorite ways to stay creative during the pandemic? Tell me in the comments below!

The Yellow Edit
The Yellow Edit; A way to stay happy and bright. One word: Beyoncé for many but for me: How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days! I mean who doesn’t remember that movie poster with Kate Hudson rocking a beautiful satin yellow dress?
Hello Friends,
After going live with the green edit last week, I sat down to think of something to journal for this week. I had so many ideas but one that I just kept going back to; Staying Bright through this Pandemic! With that being said, I bring you “The Yellow Edit; A way to stay happy and bright through Troubles.” We all go through difficult times, I have personally gone through a few that have shaped me to be who I am today. I know this pandemic will do the same when I look back in a few years. I have met a lot of people who go through hardship and doing it while looking beautiful and fierce. They look into the eyes of troubles and say “Come at me, I am positive, happy, and ready!” The color yellow stands for freshness, happiness, positivity, clarity, energy, optimism, enlightenment, remembrance, intellect, honor, loyalty, and joy. This is why it is one of my favorites (along with green!). Just like green, there are so many different shades, a shade for everyone. Yes, people may say “Mellow Yellow”, but there is nothing mellow about wearing it now a days.
However, I am well aware that contrary to its contemporary associations with sunshine and summer, the color yellow has a far darker history. Yellow’s origins were lofty enough: Chinese emperors used the saffron plant to dye their robes and, later, the color was reserved for the daughters of European royal families as the dye only took to the finest of silks (peasants who tried to dye their cotton garments yellow only succeeded in turning them gray). Yet all that glitters is not gold and the hue’s reputation was sullied over time as the yellow robes said to be worn by Venus, the goddess of love, mutated into a discriminatory marker for maligned sex workers. Great artists of the medieval and Renaissance periods used yellow to portray sinister moments like betrayal – Judas often appeared shrouded in the color – terror, sickness, and the apocalypse, and, in its darkest days, yellow became a way to single out and ostracize Jewish people in Germany during WWII.
In the natural world, too, colors which sit beside yellow on the spectrum mix with it to create putrid shades that bring to mind acid, pus, poison, and toxic foods and flowers, causing revulsion and fear. Shakaila Forbes-Bell, fashion psychologist and founder of Fashion is Psychology, notes that it’s the color most associated with urgency and alertness. "Having a greater effect on attention compared to cooler colors like blue and grey, yellow has been proven to induce feelings of high arousal which activates the ascending reticular activating system (ARAS) in the brain, leading to increased heart rate, blood pressure, mobility and readiness to respond," she explains. Think of the use of yellow in everything from road signs and horror films (Kill Bill, we’re looking at you) to graphic designer Harvey Ball's 1963 smiley face, later adopted as the symbol of rave culture. What gets hearts beating faster than ecstasy and two-stepping?(1)
For these reasons and more, we’ve long been told that yellow isn’t a flattering color to wear. So how did that all change? One word: Beyoncé for many but for me: How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days! I mean who doesn’t remember that movie poster with Kate Hudson rocking a beautiful satin yellow dress?
Let’s dig into the color, ways to wear, and more.

Hello Friends,
Happy Wednesday! Today we are going to talk all about one of my favorite colors: green. Green is the color between blue and yellow on the visible spectrum. Did you know that green is the color of balance, harmony and growth? Yup, neither did I!
Since I was little, my two favorite colors have been green and yellow. Even though they are my favorites, I barely wear the colors now. I made a promise to myself a couple months ago that I would begin adding color (I have succeeded) to my closet because I found myself wearing white or black. I am not saying there is something wrong with it, but I did want to start playing with colors and patterns. I first began with adding some pinks, blues, yellows, and these beautiful green pieces from Zara. There are so many different shades of green; a shade for everyone. Below we will begin dissecting the color and some fashion advices. Hopefully this will convert you into wanting to add the color to your wardrobe.

Color Theory
One of the first things I learned in fashion school was knowing how to use color theory and making it look good! I do have to admit that at first, the color wheel was intimidating but I promise that you will get used to it and begin experimenting and looking fabulous! There are just a few main points to learn that you can immediately start using when getting dressed every day. These are:
Analogous
Complementary
Triadic
Tonal
Monochromatic
Since in this edit we will be talking about the color green, let’s stick to explaining the points with just that color. I will do other color edits in the future; I promise!
Analogous - Analogous colours are groups of three colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel, and a tertiary.
Complementary - Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel are considered to be complementary colors (example: red and green).
Triadic - A triadic color scheme is comprised of three colors evenly spaced on the color wheel. The two most basic triadic palettes are the primary colors red, blue, and yellow and the secondary hues orange, purple, and green.
Tonal - Tonal Colors are different shades of colors of same main color group. Different tones of a color e.g. light purple and dark purple.
Monochromatic - Monochromatic colors are all the colors (tints, tones, and shades) of a single hue. Monochromatic color schemes are derived from a single base hue, and extended using its shades, tones and tints (that is, a hue modified by the addition of black, gray (black + white) and white.
Note: A monochromatic color scheme is similar to tonal but even more selective in color.
Styling
Here are some outfits I pulled together from items in my closet. I swear I had no idea I had this much green until I had to really look and begin putting some outfits together. I could do about 20 more but I figured 10 would give you the jist of it.
I challenge you to go into your wardrobe and put an outfit together with the color green. Tag me. I can’t wait to see them all. Let’s paint IG green!

Hello Friend,
What a few months it’s been! I know a lot of you have been working from home and also staying home due to the current pandemic. As many of you know, I work in the construction industry. Here in Miami-Dade, we have been “Essential” since the first emergency order was approved. That means I have been working non-stop. I am very fortunate and grateful. Having said that, I have been working from home since mid-March with an occasional visit to the office for meetings or when bids are due. I have stepped foot in a grocery store four times since March, twice at the mall for an order pick up, and that’s it. Everything has been done through deliveries. I have not gone out to any restaurants, museum, or anything. I have gone to the beach a few times during low peak days and have gone to the pool here and there. The point is that, while I get dressed daily to keep motivated, I haven’t really been able to really get dressed for any occasions. About a month or so ago things in Miami began to open up. I decided to message a couple of my husbands friends to see if they wanted to go to a little restaurant here in Miami that is outdoors. Everyone, including myself, was excited. The plan was to go two weeks from the day we agreed so I didn’t have my eldest (my weeks with her are sacred) and I could have someone babysit the baby (she really hasn’t gone anywhere at all). I was so excited I even went online and bought a new outfit. A week rolled and the numbers here in Miami began to really spike so, we decided to scrap the idea. That was over a month ago. About three nights ago, I was washing my face and it hit me! I went to my husband laughing. He didn’t understand why and I had to give him the “I am going to tell you something. Please do not laugh or judge!” So, I went on to tell him that while washing my face I remembered I had an unused outfit, still in the box! An outfit I should return because I had nowhere to go. He laughed and said “An outfit to nowhere”. Ugh, how true is that statement? However, I did have somewhere to go… my kitchen, my living room, the mail box. Ay, you know me; dressed to impress at all times. Things have been so weird. Life is at a standstill but not really. I am excited for the day we can go out on date night and share a glass of wine, go eat and drink some wine and bubbly with my girlfriends, go visit museums and get inspired, have my daughter go to the park and not worry, and more. I miss that part of life. However, I am beyond grateful for the current stillness that this pandemic has brought. I’ve spent some much needed present time with both my girls, my honey, my family. I’ve been able to connect with my girlfriends on a more personal level, read books, journal, start sketching again and more.
Anyways, I really do hope you are staying safe and using this time for you. I know it may be hard but let’s see the positive in all of this. Wake up and write 3-5 things you are grateful for every morning. (Sarah Akiba inspired me to begin doing this) and get dressed. Get out of those pajamas, take a shower, get dressed, and make the day yours!

During these weird times I have steared away from working in my pajamas. I leave the “Lazy Sundays” to just that; Sundays. A day I always spend with my loved ones and have breakfast in bed or stay in pajamas all day now that church and brunch are out of the question. As I mentioned before, I’ve made it a point to get dressed everyday and try to look presentable. Not just incase I have a zoom call but for ME! I swear that it makes me more productive and feel better about myself. I have not worn heels because I have a two story house and I’m constantly on the move (The ring I always close on my apple watch are the standing and the movement. Im going to just start counting that as my exercise) with the baby and work but if I wasn’t I’d for sure be rocking all my heels. They miss me! I know it. I have worn little make up but just enough to not make me look like I am exhausted or sick. Concealer has been my go to along with my eyebrow pencil and gel, sme mascara, a bit of blush and always a lip color. Typically one that lasts all day.
Be sure to follow me on Instagram. This week I will post a quick video on my WFH styling options. You won’t want to miss this one. @_heidico

Red Lipstick - My Fearless Ally
Photography by Frankie Coletto | July 2020
Hello Friend,
This week’s journal took me on a research venture where I learned all about one of my favorite accessory, a bold red lip. Oh, how I love a red lip! It is one of the most chic items I add to any outfit. That and a pair of pearls but we can talk about pearls another time.
Did you know that lipstick was not popularized until the early 20th century? Even then, red lips were often associated with morally dubious women: impolite, sexually amoral, even heretical. Brands like Elizabeth Arden began to popularize the bold lip during World War II by introducing politically charged advertisements for colors such as "Victory Red," persuading women to embrace beauty upkeep as part of their civic duty. Soon after Revlon introduced its iconic "Fire and Ice" advertising campaign in 1952, which has become known as one of the most effective ads in cosmetic history. We then began to see women like Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor rocking the bold red lip and it became even more desirable. A pair of cherry red lips looks just as chic today as it did hundreds of years ago. Fortunately, it is also a lot less likely to contain toxic ingredients.
I have found that a red lip elevates most, if not, all my outfits. It is even “Work from Home” and “Zoom” friendly. I will detail below some styling tips, my favorite shades, and more. I also enlisted the help from one of my best friends and a published beauty influencer, Jenny Borrego to discuss tips and trick on applying and executing the best bold lip.

Tips and Tricks ft. Jenny Borrego
I had such a blast getting together with my beautiful lifetime friend, Jenny and discussing different tips for a great bold lip. We finally narrowed it down to 3.
Tip 1 - Lip Liner
Tip 2 - Loose Powder
Tip 3 - Draw out your cupid’s bow

My 3 Favorite Shades:
Christian Dior - Rouge Dior - Shade 999
Bobbi Brown - Parisian Red
MAC - Russian Red
Styling Tips:
I love to pair a red lip with various styles. I would suggest trying these three outfits and seeing which you prefer. Remember to pick a shade of red you feel the most comfortable with. It does not have to be bright or too dark.
Casual:
White t-shirt, dainty gold jewelry, high-rise cigarette jeans, high mules
Cowl neck camisole, high-waisted/ripped denim shorts, ballet flats or your favorite pair of white sneakers
Work:
Black blazer, black chinos, black camisole, a bright shoes to match that bold lip
Oversized button up, tapered pants, pumps, stacked necklaces
Date Night:
Slip dress, leather jacket, strappy sandals
Blazer, satin shorts, lace bralette, and your favorite heels
“If you’re sad, add more lipstick and attack.”
How to Find the Best Red for Your Skin tone
The following is a good rule of thumb as detailed by Byrdie:
Brick red: warm, toned skin. [Try Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Burnt Red, $25]
Orange red: blue eyes, brown eyes and deep, warm skin tones [Try MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger, $19]
Blue red: green eyes, cool toned skin [ Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution in Red Carpet Red, $35]
Neutral postbox red: everyone! [Try Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire & Ice, $7]
For this shoot I wore a white Calvin Klein Ruffled High-Low Midi Dress, Sam Edelman Sandals, J.Crew Pearl Hoops, and a Michael Kors black leather strap watch (old).

The Oxford Shoe - A timeless addition to your closet
Photography by Frankie Coletto | July 2020
Hello Friend,
A lover of shoes over here! The Oxford Shoe; If you know me personally, then you have seen me walk into meetings, go to speaking events, or even hang around the house wearing a pair. My daughter doesn't understand why I have so many in different styles and colors. One day she will understand. I guess you can say I have a ton of love for them, but why? The oxfords not only speak classics and timeless but they are also very comfortable for a woman on the go and versatile. I work in construction and I am always on the go. I can be in a meeting with a client and an hour later be visiting a jobsite or at a prebid. I used to carry multiple shoes in my car but that quickly got old. I needed a shoe that spoke to me and made me feel powerful and beautiful; that is when I purchased my first pair of oxfords and the rest is history. Scroll down to view some styling tips, my favorite oxfords, and more.

Styling Tips
Oxfords can be dressed up or dressed down. To dress them up try a couple of the following options:
-For a summer look I used a Gingham Button-Front Shirtdress (linked) from the Lisa Marie Fernandez Target collection and a Straw Boaters hat (Sold out but I linked a similar one) from Gigipip
-Slip dress and a blazer with stacked gold necklaces
-Tuxedo jacket, a cami, and high waisted cigarette pants. Be sure to add a bold lip.
-White button up with a pleated skirt and stacked pearls
To dress it down try some of the following combinations:
-An oversized white button up with a pair of ripped cigarette jeans
-Tuxedo jacket, silk joggers and a white v-neck t-shirt
-White scalloped high waisted shorts and a white button up with a cute fedora
History:
Oxfords - The beginning history of the Oxford shoes are a little hazy but many say that the first “Oxford” shoes were worn in Scotland and Ireland. The Chelsey Boot Store who is well known for their Oxford shoes say that “The cap toe Oxfords are still called Balmorals after Balmoral Castle, however, a more familiar term used by Americans. The Balmoral is an entirely different shoe design to the English who use the term “Oxfords”. It seems the Oxford style of shoe, popularised by the University students came from a half boot called the “Oxonian” around 1825. The Oxonian featured narrow slits on the sides which made it much more comfortable to wear around campus than the fashionable high boots of the time. The slits on the side of the shoes slowly became replaced with laces. The laces eventually made their way around the boot to the instep along with the lowering of the heel and height of the boot, giving us the more recognisable design of the shoes we see today, and the shoes the students preferred in the 1800s as opposed to the knee high and ankle boots of the time.”

Hello Friend,
I am Heidi Pabon, an aspiring fashion designer and lover of all things art, fashion, design, marketing, wine, red lips, cool aesthetics, and more. Before I begin jotting down all the things that inspire me weekly, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.
As I mentioned, I am Heidi Pabon. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. I am currently living in the beautiful and vibrant Miami, FL with my fiancée and two daughters. My love for fashion came at an early age while designing and sewing my own dance costumes, while also mixing all types of red lips to get to the shade I really wanted. Yes, I danced for many years but decided to call it quits when I had my eldest daughter, Leah. I cannot ever say that I do not miss it, because I DO! My usual go to style is red lips, red nails with the vintage “lunita”, a large blazer, jeans, and oxfords. I can thank my grandmother for that. She never left her house without her red lips, nails done, and a cool sense of effortless style.
I have now been successfully marketing several large general contractor in South Florida for a little over 12 years. I really do love working in the A/E/C industry. I have been able to witness such a shift in the construction industry to be more inclusive of women in various roles and that is something that makes me smile daily. My motto is and will always be: Women BUILDing Women. This is something I have acquired during my marketing tenure at a large general contracting firm in Miami.
Anyways, sign up for the journal. Learn about all the things I find interesting and that give me inspiration. Let’s chat, lets collaborate, let’s build each other up!
